Well my suspicion is that there is wrongdoing on both sides. But I don't know how you can criticize people for asking the government to enforce its own laws about voter registration, which is what I understand the term "voter suppression" to mean. For example I have heard requesting a voter to produce identification described as voter suppression, yet at my polling place, it is often requested or you may be asked a question such as your date of birth or address to verify who you are. I don't think that is voter suppression, nor do I think the number involved is relevant. I know that in Maryland the periodic purging of the rolls is objected to. Yet peoples names remain on lists after they have died or moved away and orderly administration of an election requires that names be purged from time to time. As long as the method to do this is fair and as long as there is a remedy for mistakes, I don't se a problem with that and don't consider it voter suppression.

I don't think those who use the term mean using force or fraud to deny someone's right to vote, which I would certainly condemn. I was involved in politics for a long time and I never saw anyone who was defrauded, or forcibly denied the right to vote, but I can tell you that there was and is a significant amount of fraud.

In my experience the fraud occurs for the most part in precincts where one party or the other dominates and there is no effective oversight by the other party.

I have often wondered whether the new voting machines will result in more fraud or less.

Since I am no longer involved in politics at any level, I do not know what the current state of voter fraud might be. I hope things have improved.
