If your looking at the wide screen at 12' that site will tell you the 50" version. I can tell you the one chair in my den is only about 6' from the screen and it's actually a better view on the 52" there then at the 14' love seat. It seems with the HD you need bigger to really become immersed into the HD experience. It really sucks you into the screen at closer range and is really quite breath taking on things like that Planet Earth.

For example I remember one shot of a helicopter slowing flying down this river, you are just looking slightly ahead and down at this beautiful river running over and around the rocks and such and suddenly we flew over the water fall that had to have been 1000' or so. My wife who doesn't like heights damn near had a heart attack, it was that real.

42" sounds about right to me.

Anything larger would be

... too large.

Edit: I see Oral and I disagree. In hindsight, 42" might be a little small if you are 12' away.
