>>If my estate was in excess of $7m it would not be a reason for me not to vote for him, as I don't really care what happens after I'm dead, but if I stood to inherit $10m, I would do everything I could to make sure McCain got elected ... why should I sacrifice 45% of $3,000,000 so that Obama can be President?

That is one hell of a sacrifice ... for what?<<

Seminole -

Well, let's see.

I believe that having three new right-wing justices on the Supreme Court would have a seriously negative impact on this country. I also think McCain's hawkish foreign policy would drag our nation into more open-ended conflicts around the world, or at a minimum, cause an increase in worldwide enmity against us.

I think a McCain Presidency would be catastrophic. So I'd be willing to make a sacrifice like that. Using your own numbers, I'd still have 8.65 million to play with.

Anyway, who knows what kind of compromise McCain would reach with a Democratic Congress?

In any case, less than 0.3% of our population will have that kind of personal decision to make with respect to estate taxes and vote.

I recognize that there are single-issue voters out there. I have trouble getting my head around that. There's so much to consider.

Assuming, though, that one was going to get sufficiently exercised over a single issue, it's hard to imagine anyone picking this one. While I support raising the threshold given that a million dollars isn't much money these days, it just seems like small potatoes, as issues go.
