John and all -- Could this tax credit be coming from the German gov't for the Dresden fab construction?

Just a wild-a** guess,

Jeff

John - Re: "you are off by $20M. With Intel, this $20M (whether gain or loss) "

Yes - it was -$67,000,000 Thanks for the correction.

When you make a profit , you pay taxes on the profit.

In a subsequent year, if you incur a loss, You don't get your "old tax money" back. You get a CREDIT (a tax loss carry-forward) that can be applied to future profits (assuming there such future profits).

This Tax Loss Carry Forward is (I believe) "recorded" as a credit (paper profit) against the current loss, reducing the loss by the amount of the credit.

AMD then carries dorward the $31,000,000 LOSS instead of the $67,000,000 loss, since they used up part of their "Credit" already.
