Why didn't WHAT? happen, and how will you prove it didn't? If you have the notion that taxing the rich in the 50's created a better world for the middle class (which perhaps didn't feel so strong as you suggest), that's fantasy. We know the rich pay more than their fair share of federal tax revenues taken in, and have for a long time. It hasn't worked out so well in any time, IMHO. What's key to my analysis here is that it matters less whether we tax the rich most, or equally to the rest of us as in the ostensibly fair Flat Tax. What matters is that in either case we've taxed too many of those who can put the economy on its realistic best, if imperfect, path. That is the People, who could otherwise be the deciders of the very jobs that exist, through their buying decisions.

Government spending choices and/or tax incentives meant to help bolster what a few congressional minds feel needs bolstering, etc., will fail by and large to give us the abundance we seek, but Individual (tax) Freedom for the millions of minds alive Will Work best, in any time.

Nicholas:

How old are you?

It was precisely this that led to the Reagan Revolution.
