Other than that, you're arguing about tax levels and where the tax burden ought to reside, which are charged value judgements...

It's not a value judgment to tax what you want less of and tax favor what you want more of. That's simple economics. We tax cigarettes and tax favor installing storm windows. Where the value judgment comes in is deciding what you want to favor. I'm assuming that we all want to favor job growth so that there lots of people who can pay for goods and services. The tax burden then falls wherever it falls.

I don't see how paying more taxes cripples his business or makes it harder for him to take on more employees.

The issue, as I understand it, is the cost of investing in the business. You have to buy the business and invest to expand the business. That is done with after tax money.
