I think he should explain the situation to Joe the plumber. If he can explain it so that Joe can understand it, then the race is over. The only danger there is that Joe (thinks he) understands it, doesn't like it and votes the other way. Which IMO is why politicians like to be vague on the specifics - it doesn't do to let too many people know who the losers are. Actually I was agreeably surprised when Obama basically told Joe that he would be paying more, for that reason...
