we are considering introducing Shariah law in Canada

Sharia law was proposed here in Ontario in 2004 but the proposal was rejected by the Liberal gov't in 2005. The main lobby against allowing Sharia came from the Muslim Council of Canada.

However, Orthodox Jews can use religious law to settle disputes here. The provincial gov't has stated that this should not be permitted as the policy should be the same for all religions.
