Possibly, but when you say "...The further right you push the pendulum, the further left will be the initial backswing, until the system reaches equilibrium in the center," you are forgetting once the pendulum swings left, "the left" will easily accelerate that swing.

With Pelosi, Reed, and Obama in position there will be no checks and balances. Sort of like Nero fiddling as Rome burns. The Congress are behaving as though they enjoy public credibility and trust -- and that is not so. The Congress for the most part should be hung for treason.

No I prefer a more realistic analogy -- that of a cascade capacitor -- when the threshold is reached there will be total discharge with accompanying social chaos.

We'll see -- but remember, in your socialist systems the ends always serve to justify the means.

"What most don't realize is that we have had 8 years of a very dangerous shift to the extreme right, where the wealthy have grown richer by leaps and bounds while everyone else has stagnated. That is an existential problem for a Democracy, like I explained before."

The problem here has nothing to do with right or left. We have a country based on the nutty idea that we can borrow our way to wealth. We have so distorted our money and the messages it sends that it doen't even serve a useful purpose. Because of inflation the group that gets the money first prospers at the expense of everyone else. Fiddling with the tax system will not solve that. The problem is much bigger.
