Communism is a terrible idea. Even if we could implement it perfectly, I believe we would find our lives dismal and small.

I don't even see why anyone would *want* to implement it. I don't see what appeals, even in theory, and it completely fails the humanity test.
But I view it more as a religion than anything else, and hence no more amenable to reason, logic and reality.

I believe the people who think like that are well to the left of me, and don't represent a large enough constituency among the electorate to get their way.

It's really hard to judge the size and strength of outer constituencies and their ability to influence. They can sneak up on you. I worry about all of them until I see them actively discredited.
