>>>the climate created by the deregulation mania<<<

That deregulation mantle was worn to cover lots of causes which didn't have much to do with deregulation.

I am thinking now of the coal business and "W." Clinton was going after the coal fired generators with teeth bared for playing games with the New Source Review laws. He was making them howl.

When "W" got in there he had the Department of Justice drop all of the prosecutions. Eventually the down wind states (eg Maryland) started to sue the upwind states (eg Ohio) for violation of the federal pollution laws. Why?? Because the federal government refused to do it.

Why did this just dawn on me??? You see I got clobbered holding Calpine (NG fired generation) because they were clean. Clean was good under Clinton. "W" had coal buddies. So why am I holding Peabody (BTU)?? Because I am stooooooopid and didn't learn my lesson. BHO is going to squeeze coal hard when he gets in. Of course there is no getting around coal. We have to use it. That doesn't mean that BHO won't tax Peabody into oblivion and drive electric rates north of $0.30. That won't be his fault. It will be Peabody's, because after all, they are a coal company. They should deliver clean coal for free. Anything else is simply unacceptable.
