Understood. My choice would be Ron Paul were he the Republican nominee. As it stands, I'll take Obama over McCain. I can understand why some refuse to votee for either, that's cool.

VP that is a great value system and I fully agree, the problem is it is for now it is like wishing for the tooth fairy to run things. It is not happening so we are working with what we have. Ron Paul may have been the best choice but the fat cats did not let him out of the gate.

I agree it is safe to hate government.

It is what got us into all this trouble in the first place.

England had its longest period of peace during the latter part of the Millenium in a 30 year period where there was no King. No functional government at all. Surprisingly people did not miss it.

It may surprise some people but central government has little to do with the running of the country. For schools, hospitals, roads, farms, and business to operate it does not require congress or state legislature to convene. Bad stuff only exists if the people doing it think they are protected by the inaction of citizens, cowed as it were by the powers of otherwise indolent government servants.

Or money confiscated from people by edict, as in taxes. No taxes were necessary to run England in all its history. Just to levy for an army of the King. No taxes built Harold Godwin's army which repelled the Vikings at Stamford bridge. If there had been a better tax system perhaps England might have remained Saxon as they could have had two armies. But there must be limits to this and they are not easily established as we have seen.

The first courts were convened by groups of citizens and it is notable that the jury system evolved out of this. It was by acclamation. All our written laws were a combination of edicts of the King tempered by Charters of the citizens. Our democracy flows from citizens appealing of and rebelling from those who anointed themselves with power for power's sake. Much lawyering was invented by the Plantagenets and the chartered banks flowed from their need for money for wars.

Too much government which is what we seem to think is absolutely necessary today is too unwieldy and an unnecessary evil.
