Mr JRobinson, what concerned me was the statement that the report was on Bloomberg, which it is not. checked all bloomberg files today, and nothing posted by SmithBarney relative to Cymer either in Sept. or October. as suggested it may have come from Japan, but, the report was extremely biased which is unusual for an official report.

JRobinson & GriffinMRX,

Many thanks for attempting to provide a differing view and what is obviously an important topic that needs to be objectively discussed. I was originally attracted by this site due to the professionality and technical knowledge of the "techies" I just hope they haven't been scared off......

Nikon has obviously told Mr Goto that they intend to procure Komatsu lasers in 1QCY98. Fine, they may or they may not. We don't know yet. Here is what I think is important in the note:

1) Nikon is going to undershoot their forecasts this year due to problems relating to the production of excimer steppers and ASMLF is breathing down their necks with what appears to be a superior product.

2)Komatsu's lasers specs far exceed Cymers - at least in testing. They could operate comfortably at up to five billion shots or more. Double that of Cymer's. Plus they have superior beam stability.

Can someone with technical knowledge please provide an insight on the above statements? As GriffinMrX originally requested "validate, elaborate or estimate the impact."

Many thanks.......PAinvestor

Seems To Me ** and plz correct my mistakes. Cymer has a 90% share of a market that is in its infancy. The 90% share covers maybe 2-3% of the available market, leaving another 93+% of the market to sell to. If this is correct then Cymer should be doing well for the foreseeable future, and will no doubt be coming up with a better product as time goes on. Am I close to accurate?

ps maybe we should be buying Corning too
