Rick Simonson on Nokia's Prepayment to Qualcomm

JG,

<< I'm sorry, but his comments are contradictory. (I'm no accountant.) >>

It shows. As a consequence, I'm sorry to say that you are not qualified to make the statement that Rick's comments are contradictory, and while I'm not even sure that your reading comprehension skills are up to par this morning I'm reasonably sure that a few more cups of coffee might clear the cobwebs. <ggg>

Rick is an accountant, intimately familiar with IFRS (and GAAP) accounting principles. Keitel's an accountant, intimately familiar with GAAP accounting principles. Both are capable of speaking to corporate accounting matters with above average precision, and generally do so.

<< Maybe the agreement is silent or allows wiggle room for both parties to handle it accounting wise the way that is most beneficial to them. >>

Rest assured, they will most certainly account in the manner that they determine is most beneficial to them (and hopefully their shareholders long term needs), but in strict compliance with GAAP in Qualcomm's case and IFRS and GAAP accounting principles in Nokia's case. In negotiating the licensing agreement that certainly would have been a consideration.

Cheers,

- Eric -
