He's not a plumber. He doesn't appear to have anywhere near that kind of money. He looks like a shill- so the whole thing is sort of funny when it turns out that, not only is he a shill, but he's a guy who owes taxes already. I thought it would be exquisite if Mrs. Joe came forward to say "Hey, if you've got that kind of money where's my back child support."

:-)
I'm still hoping that happens.

So yeah, context matters. Lots of people owe taxes, but most of them aren't talking, on TV, about how they are worried about the quarter million dollars they make.

Tom,re: "I didn't think Joe the Plumber was bragging. He wants to buy his boss out and expand the company."

Yes, that's it precisely. He makes 40k a year, he has debts he hasn't paid and thus liens, and he works for company that brings in about 500k a year, gross.

It's the American dream. He plans to somehow leverage his 40k a year living wage and buy a company that's not for sale, and he "plans" to make more than 250k a year on that business.

But in the way of that dream is the dreaded Obama tax plan. Because he would, having achieved his American dream, have to pay $900 a year more in taxes on his new income of MORE THAN a quarter of a million dollars a year, he's now been "forced" to give up on his dream.

Obama ruined it for him.

Yeah, that's the ticket.
