Z, I'll just reiterate some points I've made before, but not in the same posts:

- It's valid to bring up the fact that McCain overplayed the "Joe the Plumber" card. It is only normal to highlight and profile the man that has turned into an accidental celebrity. But it is NOT OK to lead off a story with obvious ad hominem attacks. And that's what the NYTimes and the AP did.

- I've already mentioned my observation that the mainstream media is getting sloppy in its everyday coverage. I've always suspected that the Internet may have something to do with it. Your first-hand experiences confirm my suspicions.

- Despite the competition, I don't think the media should be sacrificing professionalism in order to cover their stories. There's a reason why I still prefer CNN over FOXNews, but if the media is just going to "out-FOX" FOX, why should I watch anything but FOXNews then?
