The industrial hemp thing. I have no doubt that hemp fiber has some useful properties, after all it was used to make rope for centuries. But some people become convinced that hemp has qualities that put it far above all other plants (as if there are not many other fiber plants), that its wider use would have far-reaching economic consequences, and that all that prevents it assuming its rightful place as a major agricultural crop is a sinister conspiracy. In my personal observation enthusiasts for industrial hemp have also been enthusiasts for the recreational version (haven't we all?), and somehow never recovered from the experience. They are harmless nuts, but they do get tedious.
