But "communism lite" or some sort of "third way" that would include a move in the direction of communism still gets argued. Sometimes rather explicitly, more often in terms of a bunch of small steps in different areas, which when combined would amount to a major move in that direction. In the US and in some other countries, outright calling for the whole move all at once would get rejected by the electorate, but the left calls for a step here and a step there, and then once those steps are achieved it comes up with new ones. The potential end result is the same, only the path, and the time it takes, is different. While the steps can and should be fought on grounds specific to them, its important to keep the big picture in mind as well.
