I would have definitely agreed with this post back then. Going forward, I believe Obama will have a successful first term, leading to re-election, if he governs as a centrist. The question is: will he or can he? Right now, I would be pleased if he only accomplished one thing before leaving office. That's the reformation of the capital markets so they benefit all segments of the population, not just the privileged, and so that they're protected against self-destruction in the future.
