Hopefully Obama will convince Paulson to stick around for 6-12 months as a transition leader; he can appoint his desired SecTreas as the deputy then move him up later.

Yikes!!! We couldn't disagree more. Right now, what I've seen has left me hoping both Paulson and Bernanke are sent packing and the TARP buying of mortgage assets is completely aborted.

The market has voted on the Paulson plan, it seems to me, and declared it a boondoggle.

Dale -

I spoke to one of my oldest friends yesterday. I've mentioned her here before. She was working in what was then considered a "man's job" on Wall Street in the 60s, and has been in the Finance industry ever since.

She has also been a lifelong liberal Democrat, and still is.

She thinks that Paulson and Bernanke are doing a great job, and that the direct injection of capital into the banks is exactly what is necessary. This is not a woman who supports Bush in any way, but she is very impressed with Bernanke and Paulson.

She was never a fan of Greenspan, but she liked Paul Volcker a lot.
