Dave I have no idea on whether or not the options market should be automated, what I was just pointing out was trading patterns are only periphially influenced by what systems are incorporated to handle trading. My experience comes from trading on the floor before some of the newer systems came about, and believe me if you had an order and showed it to the pro (which often you had too - in order not to get "lost") stuff happened. How to improve the options market - well for starters how about showing volumes for bid and ask.
