FDR signed a Presidential decree greatly increasing the price the government paid for Gold, so Homestake Mining shares were the winner.

If FDR had instead greatly increased the price the government paid for Ducks, then shares in Homestake Ducks would have been the best performing stock.

I doubt the success of this investment was based on any inherent property of either Gold or Ducks.
