In other words, EPS resulting from operations was really only $0.02 and not $0.03 per share, right ?

Actually, the accretion is, in essence, a required dividend, which does not technically figure in to earnings. On the other hand, many people think of dividends on preferred stock as being pretty much like interest on long-term debt, which WOULD be an expense.

Leo, while I had hoped for better earnings, I really don't see how you can find much negative in it. I believe the markets will see it as a positive development.

Guess again, genius. It said "Included in the calculation".

Leo, I'd strongly urge against it. Not because of some over-hyped BORL bullishness. BORL is in a position to exhibit some pretty wild behavior. I think that we could easily see a pop to 15. Albeit, it might just as quickly settle back to 10's. Generally, you want a company that is heading down, not up. Borland may not be moving as fast as I'd like to see, but they are still progressing.

THere a plenty of companies to short. BORL ain't one of them. Not unless you have a mighty strong stomach. Now at 15-20, I might have a slightly different attitude.
