Keynote Systems Clocks True Speed On The Internet Highway At 5,000 Characters Per Second, or Only 40 Kbps

biz.yahoo.com

Keynote's measurements show that World Wide Web documents travel through the Internet at an average speed of 5,000 characters per
second, or 40 kilobits per second (kbps). This means that the Internet operates more slowly than the latest generation of X2 (56-kbps) dial-up
modems. It also means that performance of next-generation technology such as cable-TV or satellite modems will be severely limited, at least
until overall Internet throughput for standard Web content is substantially improved.

any know if this is true about asnd buyout (from wall street whispers)?

wallstwhispers.com

Ascend Communications (ASND) 34 1/16 down 7/8. We received a very
interesting phone call from one of our sources. They told us that last Wednesday night (one day before a major investment firm was supposed to do some kind of a bond deal for ASND), ASND told the investment firm not to do the deal at the very last minute.

If this is true, it could mean that ASND is in play and we hear the most likely candidate is still Lucent Technologies (LU) with a price in the low 50's.
