an inspirational leader who can act to pull people together

Put Barrack Obama in George Bush's shoes in his speech after 9/11.

What do you think he will say?

Hopefully he'll lead instead of using it divide the country by starting an unnecessary war. Who cares about words, it actions we should judge by.

MM -

Let's all pray such an eventuality doesn't come to pass.

But if it does, I would also pray that Obama can come up with something better than, "Come on, everybody! Get out there and shop!"

From where I stood in New York City in the days following 9/11, I found Bush's speeches to be chock full of demagoguery. I have never understood why so many otherwise reasonable-seeming people felt that he was displaying powerful leadership.

Virtually the entire world, not just all of America, was united simply by the horror and scale of what had happened. I personally would have joined the damn Army at that time if I thought I would have had a chance to kill bin Laden personally. Bush did nothing that added to bringing the country or the world together, in my opinion.

Since I was referring to the economic crisis in October 2008 and Bush's performance there, I'll leave you to guess at hypotheticals. We have a track record of Bush, McCain and Obama during the bailout drama.

I wouldn't care what he would say, I'd care what he would do.

I would hope that he would have handled Afghanistan much more efficiently than Bush and would NOT have used 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq.

Speeches are great, but actions are what matter.
