I think as likely an explanation as any is that the checkmark for voting was put on the wrong name. At our poll they have to find the name on the left and check a box way-over to the right. Not all of the poll workers use a ruler to make sure they are on the same line.

You can vote if you are dead.

Vote absentee, mail it in, and it doesn't matter if you are alive or not on election day.

You have to be alive when you sign the ballot. <g>
