It's not a factor except in their fevered imaginations. These state Republican parties tend to be dominated by the most hardcore activists who want a steady diet of bloody red meat to feed on; which is why VA has steadily moved Democratic the last few years with the coup de grace about to come in November when they lose their last Senate seat and probably go blue for President.

Especially in Virginia?

Virginia has had some anti-immigrant initiatives in counties and towns were immigrant populations are high. Some have been about imposing maximum capacity limitations on dwellings. Others have been about gathering places for day workers. That sort of thing. Virginia is thick with immigrants probably because Virginia is strong economically.
