That book was a clear attempt to paint Obama as a messiah

Two things:

You are confusing two completely different issues here. You cannot discount the significance for both the black race and our whole society of Obama's achievements. Whether he wins or loses, he is an inspiration to everyone, and a source of pride in how far we have come.

This is a children's book. I work in a library, MM, and I shelve plenty of children's books that are biographies of famous people, everyone from Bush to Mohammed Ali to Nolan Ryan to people I've never heard of, dead and alive. This book isn't about the presidency; it's about what Obama has done with his life and however the RW wants to view it, it's still an amazing and wonderful story. Especially for young minorities.

I was greatly influenced by those little orange books when I was growing up, especially the ones about women. Do you remember them? They were't about turning someone into a Messiah but about giving confidence and hope that you too can do great things, no matter what.

This is not about some cult following. No one here is thinking with their emotions. And if you truly believe that the crowds cheering for Palin or Joe are thinking more with their brains, then I give up.
