This is better

merriam-webster.com

and this more thorough, but not a simple definition

en.wikipedia.org

You could have looked that up instead of arguing?

Like I said, I didn't see your source. I read your post, the one to which I responded, backed up a couple of posts in the colloquy to locate the mention of opposition. There wasn't a source. It seems your mention of the source was further back than I ventured. I didn't know you had offered a source. That's why I went to my old stand-by, Websters, which disagreed with both you and my understanding.

Had I seen your source earlier, I would have done the same thing. I would have followed your link, found something that disagreed with my understanding, and went in search of confirmation. To that end, I checked all the recognizable dictionaries I found.

So the net result would have been just the same. Whether I checked your source earlier or later, I would have found your source on one side vs. three sources plus my own understanding on the other. That's no contest.
