I thought there had been a lot more of them but it seems Obama is only the fifth black senator (and only the third after the Reconstruction era). I guess I was getting confused with the much larger number of representatives.

I grant you that, but it hardly qualifies him to become President.

I wish the first black candidate for president had been a republican, because my objections to Obama have nothing to do with his race.
