There is a psychological process underway where the red base has to deem Obama personally illegitimate and his supporters stupid dreamers working on emotion and ignoring "facts", and new voters who register this year are also frauds.

Otherwise they would have to admit that Obama is legitimately winning over a majority coalition in the USA. He is not far left, he is not The Other, he is becoming a successful national politician.

Which the ideologues cannot and never will accept. It's an emotional leap too far for many.
