If Obama wins, I hope republicans will do better at helping him succeed. I don't want to see him fail any more than you do.

Depends on what you mean by fail, and also what success would mean.

But however extensive my political disagreements with him are, he would certainly have some initiatives or policies that I would want to be successful.

Almost no one wants, or at least almost no one should want, the most extreme forms of what failure in a president could mean.

But what if he revived the "assault weapons" ban, or tried to raze taxes, or tried to nationalize health insurance (or at least move things in that direction), would you want those efforts to succeed? I think not. (Note: I'm not saying he will do all these things, I only know for sure that he plans to do the 2nd)
