Worker layoffs surged in September to the highest level since 9/11.

All is not bleak.

Still there are companies making profit. Housing news is good for 2 months in a row. It is not the end of the world. the hedge funds are getting redemptions. Mutual funds are sending letters telling the virtues of buy and hold.
