I'd say it depends on the conditions. Small increases or decreases usually have no measurable effect.

JF was pointing out the data. That isn't a non-sequitur. In fact, the data was at the heart of his argument. You tried to counter the data with a theory. Which is a novel application. Usually you use data to point out the weakness in a theory...
