Thread, how will the following affect us? Seems it was quite negative for COMS/USRX.

Long time lurker here at the WSTL thread. Also spend alot of time lurking around the AMTX thread. I own shares in both companies, and was very pleased when the merger news was announced. I don't know if this was ever posted, I was digging around and came up with the following information that I found interesting. First off, going back to the Westell press release from August 18,1997, Telecom Italia Deploys Westell xDSL equipment westell.com
I found this to be a very interesting deal struck between the two companies. Then I came across this information from the AMTX thread adsl.com scroll down and look at the projected number of users Telecom Italia is projecting by year ending 2000. 1.5 million users as part of Torrino 2000. Looks like some serious revenues and hopefully profit dollars to me. Just a thought Eddie

Trey/Curlton: Why would Alcatel need to pre-release Bell Canada's decision? I don't believe Alcatel is the only player invited to this BC dance. All of the recent press/BC-WWW-site information indicate a Westell 2.2Mbps solution. Hopefully Bell Canada will give the Admiral something to take about, Alcatel certainly has... until later.

Curly:

My sense is that the market has reached the conclusion over the past two weeks that xDSL is dead meat vs. high-speed cable. I don't necessarlily agree (yet), but the signs are not good. The RBOCs simply can't lose the protected, regulated, utility mentality. Eating your young is the only way to go in today's tech world, but they (RBOCs) can't seem to see it. So what if xDSL cannibalizes T-1: better keeping the business in house at higher volumes (albeit lower prices) than losing the business entirely to a competitor's high speed offering.
