Maybe, but who's to say that the Iraq war spending didn't hasten our march towards recession in the first place? To a certain extent, what we're experiencing is a crisis of confidence in the US economic system, which is underpinned by liquidity and faith in the US dollar. When we dilute the dollar's value so much by living beyond our means, it creates that crisis in confidence.

So we'll never really know, because it's chicken or the egg came first, but I say we need to get back to fiscal conservatism and a tax structure of the 90's as soon as we can without exacerbating the recession we're in now.
