I agree... only (sadly) we're going to do it because we stuffed ourselves at the feast of life and now we can't pay the bill. We have no one to blame but ourselves.

If it isn't, it will be. If the US Treasury can hold Treasury interest rates at 5% below monetary inflation, they should see debt reduced by 500 billion per year, at first at least.

I would naturally expect the inflation inferno to get away from the masters of the universe and so the debt would be "paid off" very quickly. Unfortunately, it would also wipe out all savers and most of everybody else.
