you just tell them your address and they check it on the list. It doesn't sound hugely secure, does it. No it doesn't, but that's the way that many places in the US do it. (and I'm still not getting any notification that you've replied to my posts... very odd.) Do you mean that my replies don't show up in your mail/inbox on SI?

Just steal the cards from post boxes and send replacement 'voters' out early on election day. Frankly, there is, IMHO, no valid reason for opposing picture IDs to vote. We (finally, after repeated court challenges and rewrites of the law) require them in my state, having made voter IDs easily available for free if you don't have another accepted form (driver's license, passport, military ID, etc.). There is no longer any excuse not to have one, yet even if you don't, you can still vote with a 'provisional' ballot that is subject only to later verification of your identity. The arguments against photo IDs to vote are pure political BS - lies designed to make minority and elderly voters think that (mostly) Republican lawmakers are trying to deny them a vote. A dishonest scare tactic. PS: If you have someone on ignore, you won't be alerted to a reply from them, but you will still see their posts on the thread.
