I think that mom and pop are hearing all of the recession predictions and are saying "I don't want my 401k to go down anymore, I'm going to cash".......and I think that the big brains are buying like crazy on the really bad days.

In other words, I think that equities are changing hands. The little guy is giving up at the worst possible moment and the big boys are accumulating at the best possible moment.

But I'm probably wrong.

My guess is that we will have one more cycle (up then down) going into the election and then it's Blue Skies Forever....

maybe the big moves up aren't being caused by lots of demand but rather little supply. And maybe the big moves down are not being caused by lots of selling, but just fewer buyers as they get rung out of the market.

The rallies do seem to take on the character of shorts covering.
