She's asking for self restraint.

In other words, no one would disenfranchise them, they would determine if they aren't adequately thoughtful themselves. In other words don't go around telling people "vote, vote, vote", but rather suggest if you don't understand what you are voting for then either learn about it or consider not voting. Or perhaps instead of suggesting that, just suggest nothing, rather than "vote, vote, vote".

I agree with her on this. This whole "everyone should vote" idea really doesn't strike a cord with me, at least not on a rational level.

If it was only a very narrow, and very unrepresentative group that was voting, than maybe I'd support "push people to vote", but it isn't. Not that turnouts are high as an overall percentage of adult citizens, or eligible voters but over 120 million people voted in the last presidential election.

Who should be appointed to determine if they are adequately thoughtful?

Who?

I said "I think people have a duty to not vote if they can't vote thoughtfully."

If you can't figure out the designated "who" in that sentence, you might have had a bit of trouble with those literacy tests that were used to deny access to voting. Good thing they don't exist anymore. <g>

You?

Yes, me. I already said that I restrict my voting to matters about which I have a sufficiently thoughtful opinion. I have no idea about Fowler and Caribou Barbie.
