Paul, intc marathon

Thanks for post,

I don't know the history of how intc "shapes" public opinion. Is this the usual way they do business. Kind of like msft, you know, the sky is falling, and then is in better shape to "beat" the numbers expected.

YOu are right, it is a marathon not foot race.

Peace,

<<Over this time period, Intel will also be driving the market to Pentium II devices (Desktops) and Tillamook (Notebooks), which will help maintain ASPs>>

The problem here is that P II pricing is comming down faster than any other chip generation.

<<And as you mentioned, MERCED will appear in the latter part of 1998/early 1999. This will reduce some R & D expenses and begin to generate addditional revenue.>>

So by this, do you mean that INTC is not planning on a chip after MERCED ? I don't think so. We just don't know the next code word yet.

Jim

I am relatively new to this thread. Thanks for the excellent posts. I was wondering what your thoughts were on 3D being on the motherboard in the future and Intel's play in it or do you think it is a bit premature, considering we have to wait another month on the CHPS buyout approval?

I used to do a little research on CHPS in the past, and their 3D chipset with Real 3D and Intel was supposed to be out in late summer 97 and has been pushed. I think this could be another big selling point for Intel (not that they need it :-) next year, if THEY can get AGP AND 3D to the mainstream desktop.

Also, do you believe in Mike Murphy's opinion that Intel has a more difficult forecast on next quarter bc more companies like CPQ have become more efficient?

Any opinion would be great
thanks

Paul, re: "MERCED will appear in the latter part of 1998/early 1999"

Intel guidance has been "sometime" in 1999. Do you have confidence that it will come in at the early part of their guidance?

Thanks,

John
