Re: Why would anyone have 1/5 of their funds in one stock?

Well, you are probably right. But, myself and family have spent considerable research effort with UTEK so we are comfortable. Personally, I know it's high, but at least my money is where my mouth is.

"Diversification is protection against ignorance. It is not necessary for those who know what they are doing." -Warren Buffet

"To accumulate wealth one needs to concentrate his risk(holdings). Once wealth is accumulated, diversification may be used to protect erosion of capital." -Richard Rainwater

William,

Who are you going to listen to, MM's who consistently underperform every major average or those who have made real money in the markets? Personally, I like to try and follow those who have been successful in actually making money Read: NOT MM's! I have 70% of my holdings in AMAT(not counting some I have bought on margin) and still manage to sleep at night. I have made some costly mistakes over the past several years(i.e.FORE) but still have managed to get a 68% annual return over the previous four years. BTW, Ultratech is about 10% of my portfolio and I have no regrets as my cost basis is $19.59. Diversify at your own risk.

regards,

Brian

Maybe they started with 5% in one stock and got a five-bagger.
Happens sometimes.

I sometimes have 100% or more (margin) of my portfolio in one stock.
Rarely but I do. Always short term.
