Because that's the basis on which much political advertising works.
Clear explanations in diplomacy and foreign policy are usually shaded grey. They recognise competing claims, accept that opinions differ and there may be no simple 'right' answer, and that compromise may be necessary.

Not good soundbite politics and not the stuff to whip up a base who you'd rather not have thinking too clearly about the issue, especially if you've only 30 seconds to state it. And particularly if any hint of compromise, of anything but "America First" will be seized on by the next Rove-inspired adversary.

The problem is, as that Dionne article I posted early argues, that after too long a reliance on this your own people will value it above any more nuanced understanding... If you climb aboard the bandwagon of the mob, book a one-way ticket.
