You raise a good point, Dan. If you think about it the poor have access to many things that even royalty didn't have, say 100 years ago. T.V. cars a/c microwaves, better food, much better health care and the list goes on.

Many who are poor in America would be considered rich in another country.

In a way I guess it is like the dog chasing its tail. As living standards go up, the poor will always be at the bottom of the ladder, but the bottom rung gets higher and higher.

You simply aren't living in reality when you say things like that. The majority of Americans are seriously worried about their retirements, their mortgage bill, and their health care. We now live in a country where the rewards don't go to those who work hard. They go to those who have all the wealth and power and can use the system to get more of it. That isn't free enterprise. That is the slippery slope to a plutocracy. And naive Republicans are aiding and abetting it.
