Thanks - I admit it was a little lazy of me not to look, but I figured people here would probably know directly...

It does seem as though being a senator is not precisely an advantage for becoming President, then. Especially since Kennedy's victory over Nixon was somewhat, ah, unusual.

OK, Palin's image is sufficiently unconventional that it might not bother her and I doubt her electoral base would be bothered if she did become a chat-show host for a few years. But I suspect she'd realise that it wouldn't help her chances with the wider electorate... they'd have years of partisan rants to replay.
Staying as governor of Alaska (assuming she can?) is not really high-profile, so I don't know if it would suit her.

But I do think that a President Obama (as it would have to be) would rather relish the thought of the Republicans selecting her against him. Even if intervening events had been truly dreadful.
