I know for a fact that most CEE Ukraine and Russia loved to receive JPY denominated loans including retail mortgages.

Several years ago I had a discussion with a high ranking finance ministry official which dismissed such worries and after my argument not to borrow in JPY long term debt I looked as a fool - the JPY started to drop - would love to confront him now <GGG>

They borrowed several hundred millions EUR equivalents in JPY for 10 years, interest only and a balloon at the end of the period which is 2009 or 2010 – but then again 1 year is eternity in FX
