10/31/08 update
I'll begin this week's update with an apology. When I reallocated the cash from the IOMI buyout in GENE's portfolio and from the ARI.TO buyout in my own portfolio, in calculating my portfolio updates I neglected to add the P&L on the reallocated shares to the P&L on the original portfolio. Since biotech stocks have dropped substantially following Gene's portfolio reallocation in early August, his overall YTD gain has been cut by about half (sorry GENE, but you're still the Contest leader by a wide margin). In my own portfolio's case, the reallocation loss has increased my overall YTD loss (although I managed to stay in the Top Ten by a hair). I seemed to have done the other share reallocations correctly and hopefully there are no other major errors in my spreadsheet.
As for the week, it was a good one for the bulls. At Friday's close, the Nasdaq Composite Index was down -35.11% YTD (vs. -41.48% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was down -12.01% YTD (vs. down -18.75% YTD a week ago). And the Contest portfolio median closed down -29.8% YTD (vs. down -38.27% YTD a week ago).
At week's end 2 of the 33 portfolios were in the black YTD, with 5 of the 33 beating the NBI. Contest leader Gene's portfolio closed the week up 42.7% YTD, with No. 2 ROBERT's portfolio closing up 8.4% YTD.
Have a terrific weekend everyone!

Portfolio adjustments: I adjusted RKRW's portfolio for the LEVP.OB buyout by VPHM. Buyout terms were $2.25 in cash and .04 shares of VPHM for each LEVP.OB share, as well as future contingent payments. However, I did not reallocate the cash or adjust for the future contingent payments.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
