I am actually somewhat familiar with Andrew Sullivan's thinking. I would say the same about Sullivan that Thomas Wolfe said about Marshall Mcluhan: "he hits very big nails not quite on the head".

Andrew Sullivan's ideas, I feel, follow the same contorted reasoning I see in Buckly and Will. Their conservative equation in my opinion is faulty, but they are conservative at heart, smart and educated. So they create very convoluted rationalization's to justify the inconsistancy's in their logic.

They all often get to a smart idea, but their logical road is tortuous. Think of how haltingly buckly always spoke. He needed the spaces to find a logical rationalization. Easier to just speak out the truth e.g. the world is round-lol.

All IMO.
