Exactly! And that is why they don't need to innovate. No one can deny MS has provided tremendous returns for their shareholders and are certainly in my list of corporate hall of famers, yet in my mind they will be all alone in their own section, because they can't be invited to the party of innovators. Personally MS would appeal to me much more if they would at some time be the first to come out with a product!
I would think they have the talent, don't you? We can all make fun of IBM but IBM Invents! If only IBM had MSFT's marketing dept! <GG>

Or what relevance is this? MSFT's job is to sell software, not seek Nobel Laureate status for its researchers. To my knowledge, MSFT has created more than NSCP, although this is highly irrelavant. These are for profit software companies, not not for profit think tanks.
