I don't doubt it will be a loud and well-funded fight; it depends if the rest of the party is strong enough to do what the DLC did in the late 80's and say enough, folks, the way we are operating now has lost the center of the electorate and we have to get it back. Recycling the perky moose lady from Alaska will look completely absurd in that context. Her negatives go up the more people are exposed to her, she is patently unprepared to debate on an equal footing with others on the issues, and so on. The Palin drama will certainly be one of the pivot points in the Republican reinvention (or lack of one).
